Your driver collects you at your Baku hotel or directly from the arrivals hall at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, tracks your flight, and waits for free for 60 minutes after landing. The 210 km route runs north along the Caspian coast on a modern highway past the striped Candy Cane Mountains, turns inland at Gusar, and climbs the final stretch of mountain road up to the resort at 1,300–2,500 m. Door-to-door, it takes about three hours.
There is no train or direct bus to Shahdag — public transport only reaches Gusar, leaving you to find a local taxi uphill with your luggage. A private transfer takes you to your hotel door, with room in the trunk for skis and snowboards; in winter, our drivers run this mountain road weekly, and the cars are prepared for snow.
Shahdag Mountain Resort is Azerbaijan's largest ski area, with modern lifts and gondolas, groomed pistes for every level, equipment rental and instructors, and ski-in hotels at altitude. The season usually runs from December to early April, and slopes are floodlit for night skiing.
In summer, the same lifts serve hikers and downhill riders, with zip-lines, quad bikes, and cool mountain air 20 degrees below Baku's. Many guests pair Shahdag with Guba or the mountain village of Khinalug on the same trip — ask your driver, both are close by.
Shahdag is an easy winter escape from the Gulf: direct flights from Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha reach Baku in around three hours, and your driver takes you from the arrivals hall to the resort in another three. For many families, it's their first time seeing real snow — beginner ski lessons, snow tubing and cable-car rides need no experience at all. Halal food is standard across Azerbaijan, and the resort hotels cater comfortably to families. Travelling as a group? The minivan seats up to six with full luggage for one fixed price.
