Door to door from Baku city or the airport — fixed price per car, day or night.
Pickup is from any address in Baku or the arrivals hall of Heydar Aliyev International Airport, with a name sign and 60 minutes of free waiting after your flight lands. The drive runs north on good coastal highway past Beshbarmag rock and the striped Candy Cane Mountains to Guba, then turns onto one of the Caucasus's most spectacular roads — a paved serpentine climbing through the Gudialchay gorge to Khinalug at 2,350 m. Door to door, it takes about four hours.
There is no public transport to Khinalug — buses stop in Guba, 60 km below the village. A private transfer takes you all the way, with photo stops in the gorge whenever you ask. In winter and early spring, we run this route by SUV; the upper road can hold snow while Baku is dry.
Khinalug is one of the highest continuously inhabited settlements in Europe — a village of stacked stone houses where the roof of one home is the courtyard of the next, lived in for around 5,000 years. Its people speak Ketsh, a language found nowhere else on earth, and the village is now a protected state reserve.
Come for the drive as much as the destination: the gorge road from Guba is a highlight in itself. Many guests combine Khinalug with a stop in Guba's apple-orchard country or the carpet-weaving village of Krasnaya Sloboda on the way back. Summer is green and cool; autumn paints the whole valley gold.
~4 h for 230 km, depending on traffic leaving Baku and conditions on the way.
